The Power of Letting Go

Life is a constant cycle of change. We know this on a soul level, just as the autumn trees know when it is time to shed their leaves and the swallows, swifts and sand martins hear the beckoning of Africa’s call. This constant cycle of change is a journey for us humans, too… but if we carry too many proverbial suitcases, they will stop us from moving forward and drag us down.

Sometimes letting go can be a physical thing involving a real suitcase. Autumn is the embodiment of the empty nest phenomenon, after all. A time when parents wave their teenage kids off to university (or their smaller children away to school with a rucksack) and life will never be the same again. We wonder where time has gone and how we will possibly be whole again in the absence of a reassuring hug. And then we think back to our own adolescence (and childhood) and how much our liberties and learning shaped our lives; how vital that move to independence was, how colourless our adult years would be without it.

Other times, surrendering to the rhythm of the universe can feel immediately and blissfully wonderful. How joyful to declutter a wardrobe and fill (another) suitcase full of clothes that will go on to help others in need, how uplifting to update a tired room with new colours and furnishings, how exciting to decide to look for a new job that matches our upgraded skills and experience.

Whilst there is comfort in the familiarity and nostalgia of a face, a thing, or a ritual, and whilst that comfort often stems from love, things are meant to change. That’s the design of life. Think of the primitive world we would live in if nobody had ever made a step towards betterment of the self or innovation of our towns and cities. Each of us is the physical product of all of these individual processes of letting go of the old and welcoming in the new!

But words can only do so much to soften the blow when we miss a loved one dearly, or we are struggling to keep our cool after an argument, or we feel lonely because a friend has stopped returning our calls. When we return to the maxim that everything is energy, it not only helps us reframe situations with a new perspective, it also empowers us to do something about removing those unwanted and unhelpful thoughts from our daily lives, replacing them with love, trust and acceptance.

That’s where meditation comes in. It’s something we mention a lot in our blogs and with very good reason! Pranic Healing’s Twin Hearts meditation is an excellent daily tool for dispelling negative thoughts, feelings and emotions, replacing them with pure positive energy to help us stay calm, clear-headed and happy during times of change and upheaval.

And learning Pranic Psychotherapy via our Level 3 Pranic Healing course, is another great way to keep mental health in check by arming ourselves with a veritable toolbox of techniques to purge the mind and body of the lower emotions and energies which can hold us back in life.
