Imagine a world where food is a source of joy, comfort and nourishment – not stress, guilt, self sabotage, pain – no rules to follow. This beautiful essence of food freedom, a comforting place where we can finally shed the weight of restrictive diets and control and reconnect with the simple pleasure of eating.
Food freedom is about reclaiming your relationship with food in a way that feels kind, gentle and true to you. It means trusting your body’s wisdom, listening to your hunger and fullness and giving your permission to enjoy all kinds of foods without judgment. It’s the opposite of dieting; its about loving what you eat, loving kindness to yourself, and finding inner peace in every bite. Understanding the value of food and the energy it provides for our overall wellbeing, mental health and vitality.
Many of us have grown up with “rules” around food – what’s good, what’s bad, what to avoid, when to eat, how much to eat. These rigid rules often come with stress, pressure and often even guilt and shame. Have you ever wondered why you reach for something when under stress? For some it might be the inability to stop eating even when the hunger pangs have gone, for others restrictions so excessive that they can no longer enjoy social situations where food is involved, for some food it is a form of punishment and others see it as the ultimate reward. We seldom step back and ask ourselves, where did this behaviour start and why is it so prevalent in our food choices, or inability to choose foods wisely? Our relationship with food hides clues as to unresolved emotional issues like rebelliousness, authority, boredom, loneliness and obsessive behaviours, often these patterns affect our long term physical and mental wellbeing.
Food Freedom is a 4 week online series created by Les Flitcroft as a result of his expertise gained through working with patients and parents of children with complicated relationships with food. It is not about nutrition or weight management, it addresses the underlying emotional reasons we create our first connections with food and how these initial patterns affect our lifelong choices and behaviours.
Breaking these patterns requires a conscious effort to:
- Identify and challenge old beliefs and emotional triggers around food
- Practice kindness with yourself with patience not criticism
- Cultivate awareness around eating, slow down, notice textures and flavours, and savour the moment
- Tune into your body and practice techniques to free yourself from old patterns
- Strengthen your trust in your internal cues for hunger and fullness over external cues
Food Freedom is open to anyone and gives insightful understandings of many hidden aspects affecting our bodies and minds, and how limiting beliefs and habits can pull us back like a rubber band into old patterns. Break these chains permanently with the help of live Pranic Healing Treatments by Les Flitcroft in each weekly session. Les is the Founder/Director and Senior Healer at the Institute of Pranic Healing UK & Ireland. He also runs a clinic and has treated over 20 000 patients in his 25 years of practice and has extensive knowledge of digestive disorders after completing a clinical paper at Kings College Hospital in London to validate the efficacy of Pranic Healing in a controlled and clinical setting.
Pranic Healing is a non touch, non drug, complementary energy healing modality. As it is non touch, these treatments can be done remotely and if you are new to this concept, it is reassuring to know that treatments done on a video call are equally as effective as an in person treatment. Pranic Healing is a system of energetic techniques that can help with physical and emotional ailments. Pranic Psychotherapy is a very effective approach to remove the root cause of our behaviours, and invites us to a new way of thinking: one where food is neither the enemy nor the obsession, finally food can become our friend.
Food Freedom is a journey, not a destination. It’s ok to take small steps, to ask others for support and honour your unique path. Be patient and loving with yourself – your body has been guiding you all along, patiently waiting for you to listen. Whether you are questioning your relationship with food, or a parent of a child who has a complicated connection with food, Food Freedom can help.
