There is a myth that needs frequent debunking: Self care = selfishness.
We are living in a fast-paced period of time when we have so much conflicting information flying at us thick and fast, and it is all too easy to get caught up in webs of unhelpful opinion and ‘well-meaning’ advice!
But…
Self care is smart.
Self care is essential.
Self care is the foundation from which we can best help the people around us.
Without putting our mental and physical needs first, we have nothing to offer anybody else. We are literally attempting to give from a depleted (and often empty) well.
Sometimes it can be challenging to put ourselves first. Especially when we are parents to young children. Especially when we are caregivers to elderly parents. Especially when we are single parents. Especially when we have demanding careers and we work long hours. Especially when we are caught up in difficult situations with family and friends, who expect us to prioritise their needs. Every one of these situations makes self-care tricky.
But if we don’t carve out time to tend to our basic needs then we will eventually succumb to stress. So it’s really important that we identify the self-care rituals that work for us. Even if we are time-poor, there are so many quick and easy – but highly beneficial – things we can fit into our daily lives.
One such thing is meditation:
The meditation that’s regularly practised in Pranic Healing is Twin Hearts. This scientifically validated meditation takes just 20 minutes and can have life-changing effects for those who undertake it regularly. Twin Hearts meditation removes negative energy from the body, recharges the practitioner with positive energy, and creates increased compassion. It can also improve sleep, reduce stress and anxiety, and boost mental clarity. In fact, the list of benefits goes on and on!
Another brilliant well-being booster is the salt bath:
Running a warm bath a couple of times a week (and adding 1 kilo of salt, plus 12 drops of lavender oil, then soaking in it for 20 minutes) is a great way to detox the body and the mind. *Always shower off afterwards to ensure all salt is washed off the body.
We truly don’t need to send ourselves off to a spa to cultivate quality ‘me-time’. Pranic Healing offers so many tools to improve our mental and physical health. Many of them can be carried out within minutes and they are a great way to start or finish the day.
If you would like to find out more about them, why not sign yourself up for a Level 1 Pranic Healing course? Courses take place all year round, all over the UK and Ireland. To find the closest one to you, just click on the link!
